A Night With Black Books Matter UK

Are you a writer wanting to publish your first novel? Are you an artist wanting to illustrate books? Perhaps you just love reading and want to meet some inspiring people.
In this exciting line-up, Black Books Matter brings audiences together with a panel of authors, illustrators, and publishers. Audiences will be able to learn more about the publishing world from the perspective of the global majority. The panel will kick off at 6.30pm, followed by a Q&A session and finishing with a spoken word open mic event celebrating local young and emerging poets.

Anti Racist Superhero Workshop (Ages 7-10)
Our Anti Racist Superhero workshops are a creative and interactive way to develop young peoples understanding of allyship and the introductory terminology around racism. Focusing on allyship to allow a deeper understanding and acceptance of all around us. The workshop is filled with storytelling, creativity and of course our favourite book detective exercise, allowing young people to actively explore doing their own research and learning. Through exploring what racism is and what it means to be anti racist young people take part in a range of creative learning, developing a range of skills and of course team work!

This interactive workshop will provide attendees with a toolkit to combat racism and strive for racial justice to create meaningful and lasting change. This introductory session will cover some of the key concepts defining how we understand and speak about race and racism today. We will explore the history that has led us to where we are now and what practical steps can be taken by individuals and organisations to work towards a reimagined future.
Our Creative Delivery workshops provide further learning resources and creative delivery ideas while addressing Anti Racism with young people. The aims of the workshops and further resources are to provide you with an important beginning point so we can support young peoples knowledge and thinking around themes of racism and anti racism.

Come and join Black Books Matter UK for our FREE creative winter workshop where we’ll be doing everything from creative writing, drama, film making to create a final film over two days! Everyone will get a free copy of Marcus Rashford’s new book “You Are A Champion“ and a meal is included too each day.

Come join our creative delivery workshop developed from our schools show The Sun Shines for Everyone looking at further learning resources, to be used with children aged 4-12.
The aims of the resources are to explore the children's idea on racism and anti racism, providing us with an important beginning point so we can track and evaluate how their thinking evolves and changes around the topic.
